Getting your paperwork together early is one of the easiest ways to make buying a home feel less stressful. Here’s what lenders typically ask for — gather these and you’ll be ready when the time comes.

Documents you’ll need

Get these together early so there’s no scramble when you’re ready to apply.

  • Photo IDA current driver's license or passport.
  • Pay stubsYour most recent 30 days.
  • W-2sThe last 2 years.
  • Tax returnsThe last 2 years (especially if self-employed).
  • Bank statementsThe last 2–3 months, all pages.
  • Proof of other incomeBonuses, side income, benefits — if any.
  • Gift letterIf family is helping with the down payment.
